REPORT ON THE FIELD TRIP TO COLLEGE FIELD

Three intrepid LNPN members made their way to the beautiful nature reserve at College Field near
Tring in Hertfordshire last Friday, 5 September, and enjoyed a sun-filled late summer’s day
photographing the wildlife around the lake and adjacent flower meadows. The marshy areas around
the lake proved to be the most productive photographically, with butterflies, damsel and dragon
flies and bees flitting through the rushes. There was also quite a lot of bird life across the lake,
including a Small Egret on its far shore and occasional fleeting glimpses of raptors in the air in the
distance, but little else other than pigeons and gulls. And the flower meadows had clearly been
parched by the lack of rain since last winter, so, sadly and unusually, few macro subjects presented
themselves to be photographed. But it was a gloriously warm day and a joy to spend it in such a
beautiful environment. Just a pity more members did not share the enjoyment!
