Details of Gigrin Farm trip.

An extremely rare Leucistic Red Kite
GIGRIN FARM Gigrin Farm, near Rhayader, Powis feeds Red Kites every afternoon except Thursdays
and Fridays, attracting several hundred kites, including some rare leucistic variants, and often other
raptors, for example buzzards. It also offers a series of well-placed hides and towers for
photographers to capture the birds feeding and in flight, a small reasonably-priced café and ample
parking. NPNUK arranged one of its first field trips to Gigrin in the early autumn of 2024, with such
success, that a second field trip this year was felt to be a good idea, taking place in late summer.
THE PLAN The plan is to drive to Rhayader on Tuesday 1 September, stay in a local B&B or Hotel for
the nights of 1 and 2 September, visit one of a number of the local wildlife or landscape venues in
the area on Wednesday morning, arrive at Gigrin early afternoon on 2 September and, perhaps after
visiting another local wildlife venue, return home on 3 September.
OPTIONS Members interested in joining the field trip can either join the whole trip over the three
days, including the two-night stay locally, or, just the Wednesday and Thursday, staying overnight on
2 September, or driving to Gigrin on Wednesday morning and returning that evening after the Gigrin
session is over.
LET US KNOW If you are interested in joining the field trip, please contact the leader, Barrie Brown
by email at drbjbrown@gmail.com to let him know whether you intend to stay all three days, just
two or only one and/or whether you would like a lift to mid-Wales, or can offer a lift to another
member.
