Report on the LNPN Field Trip to RSPB Rainham Marshes

Seven LNPN members, including Rita on her first LNPN field trip, gathered at Rainham Marshes on the north bank of the River Thames, to spend the day capturing images of the birds, mammals and insects that are found in the managed RSPB Nature Reserve at the site. Cattle graze across the reserves acres and water levels are controlled to create a patchwork of clumpy wet grasslands and semi-permanent pools. A walk around the well-kept footpaths offered plenty of opportunities to capture images of Water Voles, reptiles, amphibians and minibeasts, and in some of the sandy areas, where a wide range of insect life likes to live, there were Water Voles, various reptiles and plenty of bees, butterflies, dragonflies and bugs to focus on. Sadly, less in the way of birdlife from the hide, but, Egrets, Cormorants, Grey Herons, Moorhens and lots of wading birds were on show, even if birds in the air in the heat of the day were less in evidence. All in all, as these images show, this field trip offered a feast of opportunities for theLNPN members who joined the trip.
